In Greene County district court Michael Marlin Matthews, 27, of Grand Junction was sentenced Nov. 21 to five years in prison on a charge of burglary- third degree and one year in prison on a charge of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness. The prison terms on concurrent. They were suspended and Matthews was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for three years. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.50 surcharge on the burglary charge; the fine and surcharge were suspended. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge on the assault charge. Matthews must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Court costs and restitution for his court appointed fees are to be determined. Jamie Alan Gumm, 45, of Des Moines was sentenced Nov. 21 to 10 years in prison on a charge of manufacture/deliver or possess with intent to deliver more than 5 kg of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine. He was fined $1,000 with a $150 surcharge; the fine and surcharge were suspended. He has already undergone a substance abuse evaluation and must comply with the recommendation of the evaluation. A charge in that case of ongoing criminal conduct was dismissed.
Gumm was charged with driving while license barred in another case. He was sentenced to two years in prison on that case, concurrent to the sentence in the drug base. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. The court ruled he is unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs in both cases. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Lori Anne Gannon, 61, of Churdan, drug distribution violation to person under age 18 (five counts), ongoing criminal conduct- unlawful activity, and failure to affix tax stamp; Jude Garrett McIntire Reynolds, 20, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; and David Wayne Lansman, 54, of Grand Junction, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness. Gannon’s trial date was set for Feb. 28. McIntire Reynolds’ and Lansman’s trial dates were set for Jan. 24.
Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Daniel Alan Sturm, 42, of Carroll, operating while intoxicated; Tearra Ann Ellis Hall, 24, of Rutland, operating while intoxicated; and Olvin Rodanin Aguilar Flores, 42, of Jefferson, sex abuse- continuous sex abuse of child (two counts).
